The International Trade Administration (ITA) has issued a notice announcing that it is accepting applications from persons (including firms, corporations, or other legal entities) who weave worsted wool fabrics in the U.S. with an average fiber diameter of 18.5 microns or less, which is suitable for making men's and boys' suits, for an allocation of the 2006 tariff rate quota (TRQ) of 2,000,000m2, as provided for in HTS 9902.51.16.
In the August 24, 2005 issue of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Bulletin (CBPBulletin) (Vol. 39, No. 35), CBP issued notices: (a) proposing to revoke two classification rulings on certain three-layer fabric and garments with activated carbon particles in one layer, and (b) announcing its grant of "Lever-Rule" protection for certain fax toner cartridges. CBP states that it is also proposing to revoke any treatment it has previously accorded to substantially identical transactions that are contrary to its position in the proposed revocation notice.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has posted to its Web site a notice announcing that the fifth fiscal year (FY) 2005 specialty sugar tariff-rate quota (TRQ) (i.e. tranche) provided for in HTS Chapter 17, Additional U.S. Note (AUSN) 5, which opened on August 30, 2005, oversubscribed at opening moment. The publication Seaports Industry Update has issued an initial assessment of port conditions in New Orleans, dated August 31, 2005, after the impact of Hurricane Katrina. The initial assessment lists specific wharfs and facilities, with a note from the President and CEO of the Port of New Orleans stating that "The outcome is not good, and it has been aggravated by unexpected flooding following the storm.
