The International Trade Administration (ITA) has amended its initiation and its preliminary results of the antidumping (AD) duty administrative review of certain softwood lumber products from Canada for the review period of May 22, 2002 through April 30, 2003 in order to add 22 companies that were inadvertently omitted from the initiation notice.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has issued a press release announcing the appointment of Michael C. Mullen as Director of the Office of Trade Relations. According to the press release, Mullen will serve as the liaison between the international trading community and senior CBP managers, and will be responsible for policy review and planning, and assisting the Commissioner on outreach to the international trade community on supply chain security and trade facilitation issues. The Journal of Commerce Online reports that on August 4, 2004, the World Trade Organization (WTO) preliminarily ruled that European Union (EU) subsidies for its sugar farmers violate global trade rules, upholding a complaint filed by Brazil, Australia, and Thailand. The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) has issued a notice stating that the Trade Policy Staff Committee (TPSC) is seeking comments in connection with negotiations on the expansion of the list of pharmaceuticals subject to reciprocal duty elimination (Pharmaceutical List) by certain members of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has issued an administrative message to ABI filers containing temporary instructions on how to supply prior notice (PN) if a filer has problems obtaining the food facility registration number for the manufacturer, or in providing bill of lading(BL)/Air Waybill (AWB) numbers because of format problems.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a notice announcing that it is considering a proposal to permit registered importers (RIs) to submit, in an electronic format over a secure web-based system, certain information regarding imported vehicles that are certified by their manufacturer as complying with Canadian motor vehicle safety standards (CMVSS), but not with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards (FMVSS).
