The National Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association of America scheduled a webinar on the status of eBond. The webinar is scheduled for 2 p.m. Dec. 12.
The U.S. now has Customs Mutual Assistance Agreements with 67 countries plus Taiwan, CBP said. Under the agreements, domestic and foreign courts recognize each agreement as a legal basis for wide ranging cooperation. They also allow for the exchange of information, intelligence, and documents that will ultimately assist countries in the prevention and investigation of customs offenses, it said. CBP is inviting comments on the paperwork burden of extending its requirement for a Commercial Invoice form: OMB No. 1651-0090, it said in a Federal Register notice scheduled for Nov. 26.

The U.S. and Morocco signed a bilateral Customs Mutual Assistance Agreement (CMAA) that includes information sharing and cooperation between the two customs administrations, DHS said. The agreement was signed Nov. 21 by Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Rand Beers and Moroccan Minister of Economy and Finance Mohamed Boussaid. The agreement will permit the U.S. and Morocco to exchange information and engage in a range of other forms of mutual assistance to collect revenue and protect their countries, including combating terrorism, DHS said.
CBP's Miami Air Cargo office is looking for potential volunteer participants in a pilot program aimed at streamlining the cut flower inspection process, according to a Nov. 21 memo from Rolando Suliveras, port director at Miami International Airport.

CBP issued a matrix of State Department Directorate of Defense Trade Controls reporting requirements for Licensable Shipment Reporting. The matrix includes whether specific reporting is required for specific items under different ITAR and other regimes. It also includes additional edits and validations for DDTC license data. It said nonconforming filings will be rejected.
CBP agents found $217,536 worth of methamphetamine concealed inside the undercarriage of a vehicle at the Calexico downtown port of entry Nov. 18, CBP said. The driver, a 43-year-old female Mexican citizen and resident of Mexicali, Baja California, was arrested and turned over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents for further processing, it said.
Interest rates for additional duties due and other money owed to the government as a result of reconciliation will remain at 3 percent through Dec. 31, CBP said. The rate is unchanged since October 2011.
