CBP Agents Find $217,536 of Meth, Record Amount of Marijuana, Other Drugs
CBP agents found $217,536 worth of methamphetamine concealed inside the undercarriage of a vehicle at the Calexico downtown port of entry Nov. 18, CBP said. The driver, a 43-year-old female Mexican citizen and resident of Mexicali, Baja California, was arrested and turned over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents for further processing, it said.

In a separate incident, agents stopped a tractor-trailer load of Mexican squash, co-mingled with a $10.1 million shipment of marijuana, at the port of Nogales Nov. 20. That topped Arizona's previous record, a $7.1 million shipment in January, CBP said (here). Pedro Corona-Moreno, 32, of Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, was arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
And CBP agents seized $1.3 million worth of heroin and uncovered 369 pounds of marijuana concealed inside a shipment of squash, in two separate incidents. The first was Nov. 19 at the San Ysidro port of entry, when officers discovered 24 wrapped packages, totaling 93 pounds, of heroin concealed inside a hidden compartment built into the wheels of the vehicle. The driver, a 46-year-old Mexican citizen and resident of San Diego, was arrested for the alleged narcotic smuggling attempt and turned over to HSI agents for further processing. In the second, officers at the Otay Mesa commercial facility found 37 wrapped packages of marijuana, valued at $221,400, hidden among the a load of squash. The driver, a 29-year-old Mexican citizen and resident of Ensenada, Baja California, was turned over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigation (HSI) agents for further processing, CBP said (here).
