Clear Terms

Search Primer

Multi-word term: Place inside quotes to ensure an exact match together (e.g. "China import").

Term list: Separate terms with spaces, not commas or semicolons to find either word (e.g. AD/CVD antidumping).

Acronyms: Use all capital letters (e.g., ACE).

Required term: If a term must be included in any resulting articles, prefix it with a plus sign (e.g., CBP +releases).

Excluded term: If a term should be excluded from any articles being found, prefix it with a minus sign (e.g., -ruling).

Singular form: Use the singular form when doing multi-word terms (e.g. "russian export control" instead of "russian export controls").

Shortest word form: When you have different word forms in a quoted term, include the shortest version if it is the last part of the expression (e.g., "entity list" instead of "entity listing" or "entity listed").

CBP needs to develop more transparency about an importer's ability to change their assigned Centers of Excellence and Expertise for both importers and their customs brokers, the Commercial Customs Operations Advisory Committee (COAC) working group said in recommendations published Feb. 26 ahead of its March 6 meeting, where the recommendations will be voted on for approval (see 2402150016).

CBP Removes Recent EAPA Notice From Website

CBP removed a recently issued Enforce and Protect Act notice from its website because it included business confidential information that was inadvertently released, a CBP spokesperson said. The notice announced the initiation of an EAPA proceeding and the imposition of interim measures on Beanomy, IYEE Nature, Kelanch, Wakodo Household Supply, Xinshidian Trading, Zevoky, Kakaivy, Weekaly, Heniddy, Ryan James Engineering, Sunwind Trading and Anlowo after CBP found a “reasonable suspicion” that the companies are evading antidumping and countervailing duties on mattresses from China (see 2402260044).

October Customs Broker Exam Had 34% Pass Rate

The October 2023 customs broker licensing exam had a 34% pass rate, the Commercial Customs Operations Advisory Committee said in an issue paper released Feb. 26. It said 1,141 people took the test Oct. 25, with 932 of those taking the exam in-person at testing centers and 209 taking the exam remotely. CBP changed from five answer choices to four answer choices per question for the October 2023 exam, "to better align the CBLE with exam industry best practices," it said. The next exam was recently moved from April 24 to May 1 (see 2312120046). The issue paper was posted ahead of the COAC meeting on March 6 (see 2402260061).
