U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has issued an administrative message reminding remote location filers of certain remote location filing (RLF) entry and statement procedures.
The Department of Transportation's (DOT's) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a final rule, effective September 30, 2004, to amend its regulations in 49 CFR Parts 591, 592, and 594 pertaining to the importation by registered importers (RIs) of motor vehicles that were not manufactured to comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety, bumper, and theft prevention standards.
Journal of Commerce Online reports that importers and exporters who ship their cargo through Los Angeles-Long Beach during the day will pay a fee of $20 per TEU starting November 1, 2004. At the same time, all terminal operators in the port complex will phase in a program of extended gate hours, beginning with a full day shift each Saturday. Eff: 08/25/04 FR Pub 08/25/04 The International Trade Administration (ITA) has issued the final results of its antidumping (AD) duty changed circumstances review of the AD duty order on extruded rubber thread from Malaysia. As a result, the ITA is revoking this AD duty order effective October 1, 2003. The Commerce Department's Office of Textiles and Apparel (OTEXA) has issued its U.S. Possessions Report, which contains statistics through June 30, 2004 for U.S. imports from the Northern Marianas, Guam, the Virgin Islands, and American Samoa. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has issued a letter to clarify its definition of "boneless bovine meat" with respect to "diaphragm meat" and "hanging tenders" to make clear that these cuts are eligible for import from Canada when accompanied by a valid permit. The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) has implemented an organizational realignment effective August 23, 2004. According to the FMC, the new organizational structure neither creates any new programs or additional staffing requirements, nor eliminates any FMC projects, activities, or positions. In the August 18, 2004 issue of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Bulletin (CBPBulletin) (Vol. 38, No. 34), CBP issued notices: (a) proposing to modify a valuation ruling on defective watches sent abroad for repair and then returned to the U.S. and proposing to revoke a valuation ruling on used lacquer thinner recycled abroad and then returned to the U.S., and (b) withdrawing proposed revocations of two classification rulings on certain carbon-lined clothing and carbon-impregnated fabric.
