CBP and CPSC investigators seized 200 cotton mattresses at Los Angeles/Long Beach seaport complex for violating the Flammable Fabrics Act, CBP said. The mattresses, imported from China, were burn-tested in a CPSC scientific laboratory setting and failed to meet the federal safety standard for open-flame fire resistance, it said. The affixed labels also failed to meet the standards, CBP said, because they didn't include the manufacturer's address, date of manufacture, or prototype identification number, and misled that the mattresses met the federal flammability open-flame standard.
CBP is proposing an extension of a previously approved information collection about CBP Form 19, Protest, which is used by an importer, filer, or any party at interest to petition CBP, or protest any action or charge made by the port director with respect to imported merchandise, it said in a Federal Register notice scheduled for Oct. 15. The information collection was previously approved by OMB (See ITT's Online Archives 12080730).
CBP is proposing to extend a previously-approved information collection about petroleum refinery sub-zones in Foreign Trade Zones, with no change to the burden hours. This document is published to obtain comments from the public and affected agencies. The previous 60-day comment period was launched Aug. 8 (see ITT's Online Archives 12080731).

CBP issued a memorandum on saying the first tranche (period 1) for the fiscal year 2013 specialty sugar tariff rate quota opens Oct. 12, 2011, at 1 p.m. EDT, or its equivalent in other time zones.
CBP will host a Trade Fair to provide members of the trade community the opportunity to speak one on one with representatives of federal agencies involved with imports and exports, CBP said in a CSMS message. The event will be held Oct. 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) building located at 6500 Campus Circle Drive East, Irving TX 75063.
CBP Los Angeles scheduled another trade forum to discuss planned updates to CBP's and the Food and Drug Administration's refusal/redelivery process, it said in a public notice. Topics will include FDA exams and entry review, exports and destructions, the new CBP/FDA joint redelivery process, and CBP's refund and cancellation policy, said the notice.
