Senate Confirms New Head of CBP
Rodney Scott, who once led the Border Patrol, was confirmed by the Senate to be the leader of CBP, on a 51-46 vote. All Republicans present voted for Scott, and no Democrats or independents did.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said in a floor speech ahead of the vote: "At a time when the Trump administration is snatching people off the streets, conducting military-style raids across America, and demonizing immigrants, Mr. Scott would be nothing more than a rubber stamp for some of Donald Trump’s nastiest, cruelest immigration policies."
Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., also spoke on the floor against Scott's nomination, and gave examples of "gut-wrenching stories" of detentions, including of an American citizen with intellectual disabilities.
No Republicans spoke on Scott's behalf, but after his confirmation, Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., gave a speech condemning protests in California against deportations, and said "some on the left are trying to stop the removal of criminal illegal aliens."
