FMC Tells COSCO to Pay More than $32,000 to Motor Carrier
A Federal Maritime Commission administrative law judge ordered Chinese ocean carrier COSCO Shipping Lines June 6 to pay California-based motor carrier Access One Transport $32,495 in reparations for imposing unfair detention fees.

The fees were unreasonable because a lack of available return appointments prevented Access One from returning many containers, the judge said.
Access One, which filed its complaint last year (see 2403010029) had sought a total of almost $354,000, including for failing to make terminal space available, but the judge concluded that the motor carrier didn’t show it was entitled to that much. Access One and COSCO didn’t respond to requests for comment on the decision.
