FMC Rejects Complaint Against Cosco Shipping Lines
A Federal Maritime Commission administrative law judge April 28 denied a complaint by Texas importer Visual Comfort & Co. (VCC) against Chinese ocean carrier COSCO Shipping Lines Co., saying VCC presented insufficient evidence that COSCO charged it $1.2 million in unfair demurrage, detention and storage fees.

VCC argued that COSCO didn't divert shipments to less crowded ports or extend the number of free days when circumstances outside of VCC's control affected a shipment (see 2402140026). COSCO denied the allegations, saying VCC wasn’t its customer and hadn’t paid it any of the disputed charges.
