"If implemented, the emerging plans would pare back the most sweeping elements of Trump’s campaign plans," the Post reporter wrote.

The Post story included many caveats, such as the sources telling the reporter "that no decisions have been finalized and that planning remains in flux," and that it's not clear, if the tariffs are only for specific goods, which ones would be targeted. It also said it's unclear whether the threatened 25% tariffs on all Canadian and Mexican goods are still coming.

President-elect Trump posted on social media: "The story in the Washington Post, quoting so-called anonymous sources, which don't exist, incorrectly states that my tariff policy will be pared back. That is wrong. The Washington Post knows it's wrong. It's just another example of Fake News."
