Bipartisan Bill to Expand Sanctions on Fentanyl Players Introduced
A bill introduced by Rep. Andy Barr, R-Ky., called the Stop Chinese Fentanyl Act, would authorize the administration to impose sanctions on Chinese chemical companies and government officials who don't do appropriate compliance and oversight to prevent their chemicals from being sold to narcotraffickers.

Current law authorizes sanctions on those who are opioid traffickers; this would authorize sanctions if companies fail "to take credible steps, including through implementation of appropriate know-your-customer procedures or through cooperation with United States counternarcotics efforts, to detect or prevent opioid trafficking." And it would authorize sanctions on officials responsible for regulating or investigating crimes in this area.
The president would be required to submit reports on sanctions activity in this area for the next 10 years, according to the bill's text, which was released May 22.
