CBP to Expand Document Imaging Pilot this Summer

CBP will expand its Document Image System (DIS) pilot in the Automated Commercial Environment to add additional partner government agency forms and reduce metadata submission requirements, said CBP in a notice. A Federal Register notice on the expansion will be published shortly, said CBP. DIS allows for electronic submission of documents during the import process required by multiple agencies. CBP began testing the program last year (see 12040548).

CBP said it's important that early adopters test the DIS capabilities and such participants will be able to realize the immediate benefits of the pilot expansion. Forms to be eligible for DIS include:

General Forms, not specific to any one agency:

  • Phytosanitary Certificates
  • Ingredients List
  • Commercial Invoice
  • Packing List
  • Invoice Working Sheet

Ocean Export Manifest forms (able to be submitted via email):

  • Export Manifest (130A) including RO/RO Export Manifests
  • Bills of Lading
  • Declaration of Empties
  • Images, text files, or spreadsheets, etc.

Forms to support Cargo Release/Simplified Entry filing (These forms can be submitted by Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) or email):

  • Packing list
  • Commercial Invoice
