The Commerce Department is beginning an anti-circumvention inquiry on allegations that certain models of vertical shaft engines imported from China are circumventing antidumping and countervailing duties on vertical shaft engines between 99cc and 225cc, and parts thereof, from China (A-570-124/C-570-125), the agency said in a notice.
The Commerce Department issued its final determination in its countervailing duty investigation on tungsten shot from China (C-570-179), finding countervailable subsidization of producers and exporters. Suspension of liquidation currently isn't in effect for entries on or after April 19, 2025, and Commerce will require cash deposits of estimated CVD on future entries only if it issues a CVD order.
The Commerce Department issued its final determination in its antidumping duty investigation of tungsten shot from China (A-570-178). Changes to cash deposit requirements set in this final determination take effect July 11, the date they are scheduled to be published in the Federal Register.

USDA announced it will again close the southern border to livestock trade “effective immediately,” after another detection of New World Screwworm in Mexico, it said in a July 9 news release. The agency had previously said it would reopen southern border ports to cattle, bison and horse imports in phases, with the Douglas, Arizona, port of entry the first to reopen July 7. However, the newly reported New World Screwworm case “raises significant concern about the previously reported information shared by Mexican officials and severely compromises the outlined port reopening schedule of five ports from July 7-September 15,” USDA said in the release.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as he attended the Association of Southeast Asian Nations conference in Malaysia, was asked by reporters how Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Brunei, the Philippines, Vietnam and Myanmar received the U.S., given the high tariffs the U.S. announced it will be imposing on those countries in three weeks.

Pirfenidone tablets with an active pharmaceutical ingredient made in Italy but sent for final processing in India is still a product of Italy for government procurement purposes, CBP said in a final determination released July 10. As the agency has said in a multitude of prior rulings, it found processing in a third country of an API into measured doses isn’t a substantial transformation if it doesn’t change the medicinal use of the API. Italy is a country designated as allowed for U.S. government procurement, while India isn’t, CBP noted.
In a social media posting the evening of July 9, President Donald Trump wrote, "I am announcing a 50% TARIFF on Copper effective August 1, 2025, after receiving a robust NATIONAL SECURITY ASSESSMENT."
