ITC Begins Pair of Section 337 Investigations on Motorola, Lenovo Devices
The International Trade Commission is beginning a pair of Section 337 investigations on Motorola and Lenovo mobile phones, tablets and laptops that allegedly infringe patents held by Ericsson, the commission said in a pair of notices Nov. 17.

One investigation (ITC Inv. No. 337-TA-1375), requested by Ericsson Oct. 11 (see 2310160010), will consider allegations that Motorola and Lenovo import 5G-capable mobile phones that infringe on four of Ericsson's patents concerning protecting privacy in wireless networks, wireless transmission, uplink and downlink controls, and wireless encoding. The ITC will consider limited exclusion orders and cease and desist orders banning imports of these products from:
- Motorola Mobility LLC of Chicago, Illinois
- Lenovo (United States) Inc. of Morrisville, North Carolina
- Lenovo Group Limited of Quarry Bay, Hong Kong
- Motorola (Wuhan) Mobility Technologies Communication Co., LTD., of Wuhan, China.
The other investigation (ITC Inv. No. 337-TA-1376), requested by Ericsson the following day (see 2310170020), will target imports of Motorola and Lenovo mobile phones, tablets, laptops and components that allegedly infringe on four of Ericsson's patents covering semiconductor chips, cellular communications, video encryption and video controls. In that investigation, the ITC will consider limited exclusion orders and cease and desist orders against the following respondents:
- Motorola Mobility, LLC, of Chicago, Illinois
- Lenovo (United States) Inc. of Morrisville, North Carolina
- Lenovo Group Limited of Quarry Bay, Hong Kong
- Lenovo (Shanghai) Electronics Technology Co. Ltd. of Shanghai, China
- Lenovo Beijing Co., Limited, of Beijing, China
- Lenovo PC HK Limited of Hong Kong
- Lenovo Information Products (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd. of Shenzhen, China
- Motorola (Wuhan) Mobility Technologies Communication Company Limited of Wuhan, China.
The ITC will determine target days for completing the investigations within 45 days, the commission said in a pair of news releases.
