U.S. Customs and Border Protection has received a petition submitted by Yara North America, Inc. requesting the reconciliation of inconsistent tariff classification decisions by CBP officials at the ports of Long Beach and Baltimore for CN-9 Solution, pursuant to 19 CFR 177.13. CBP invites written comments on this petition by August 24, 2011.

On August 5, 2011, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced that the National Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Coordination Center has launched a new standalone website at www.iprcenter.gov. The site includes an overview of the center, news releases, a photo/video gallery, published reports in an easy-to-use document viewer, and an electronic form for the general public, industry and trade associations, law enforcement, and government agencies to report intellectual property rights violations.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection has announced that Global Entry members will now be issued a Global Entry version of the SENTRI card, which is a Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI)-compliant, radio frequency identification (RFID) technology-enabled document that may be used by U.S. citizens when entering the U.S. through a land or sea port of entry from Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean.
On August 5, 2011, U.S. Customs and Border Protection issued a CSMS message announcing modifications of Food and Drug Administration Product Codes for “Industry 40” baby food products. Some are end-dated in 30 days (with replacement codes listed); others can be used immediately.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection has posted a notice announcing that the next customs broker license exam will be held on Monday, October 3, 2011.

On August 4, 2011, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Bersin spoke at an even on a panel dialogue on the state of U.S.-Mexico border security. Bersin pointed to gains in technology and infrastructure, which in addition to hardening the border have given the Border Patrol improving capabilities to track illegal border crossers. He also credited the communication between the countries for improving border security, stating that the U.S. has gained the cooperation of Mexican authorities in shared responsibility and collaboration on law enforcement efforts.
