During a House Appropriations Subcommittee hearing on March 1, 2011, Representative Manzullo (R) urged Secretary of State Clinton and others in the Administration to demand strong intellectual property protections in the multilateral trade agreement the U.S. is negotiating with several Asia-Pacific nations (i.e., the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) free trade agreement).

The Federal Maritime Commission has posted Chairman Lidinsky's testimony before the Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, in which he presents the President’s $26,265,000 fiscal year 2012 budget for the FMC (an increase of $2,130,000 over the enacted FY 2010 appropriation).
On March 1, 2011, House Ways and Means Ranking Member Levin (D) and Trade Subcommittee Ranking Member McDermott (D) issued a statement criticizing the Republicans for "holding up the trade agenda." According to Levin, the Administration’s implementation language for the South Korea FTA is nearly complete and it should be sent to the Congress promptly.
House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Camp (R) and Trade Subcommittee Chairman Brady (R) issued a response to the issuance of the President’s 2011 Trade Policy Agenda. The Chairmen expressed disappointment that the President’s Agenda failed to lay out a concrete plan for advancing the pending trade agreements with Colombia and Panama and urged the President to take the lead on Panama and Colombia, as he did on South Korea. Both Camp and Brady reiterated their calls for the Administration to submit all three pending FTAs by July 1, 2011.
In mid February 2011, 14 Senators and 122 Representatives sent letters1 to Secretary of Transportation LaHood expressing concerns about the Department of Transportation’s proposed changes to its hours of service rules for commercial truck drivers.
On March 1, 2011, 67 House freshman Members sent a letter to the President urging the enactment of the three pending free trade agreements with Colombia, Panama, and South Korea. The Representatives state that they are committed to working with the President to develop a comprehensive trade agenda and believe that the first step in that process is to move forward with the pending FTAs without delay.
