In the Jan. 20 issue of the CBP Customs Bulletin (Vol. 50, Nos. 2 and 3) (here), CBP published notices that propose to revoke or modify rulings and similar treatment for aluminum composite sheets and metal restocking carts.
Alternative funding mechanisms allow CBP to keep up with staffing and modernization needs while federal funding increases lag behind, said CBP Commissioner Gil Kerlikowske in a blog post (here). He pointed to two programs, the Donations Acceptance Program and the Reimbursable Services Program, as two important methods allowed by Congress that can add to CBP's abilities. During the first two years of operation, RSP resulted in "an additional 125,000 hours of services accounting for the processing of more than 3 million travelers and nearly 460,000 personal and commercial vehicles at the participating ports of entry," Kerlikowske said. CBP will begin taking new applications for RSP on Feb. 1, he said.
The customs broker’s license examination scheduled for April 2016 will be on Monday, April 4, said CBP in a notice (here). The exam will consist of 80 multiple-choice questions. Exam topics usually include: Entry; Classification; Trade Agreements; Valuation; Broker Compliance; Power of Attorney; Marking; Drawback; Bonds; Foreign Trade Zones; Warehouse Entries; Intellectual Property Rights; and other subjects pertinent to a broker's duties.
