Patricia Compres and Maria Bermudez opened a new customs firm, Advance Customs Brokers and Consulting, on May 1, the company said in a press release. Compres and Bermudez previously worked as principals of Customized Brokers, which was acquired by Crowley in 2009.
Former Vice Presidential adviser Scott Mulhauser is the new chief of staff for the Export Import Bank, Ex-Im President Fred Hochberg said May 24. Mulhauser was most recently a senior adviser on the Presidential Inaugural Committee. He served as Vice President Joe Biden’s deputy chief of staff in 2012 and previously worked as a Senate Finance Committee staffer. In a statement, Hochberg said Mulhauser’s “impressive talents and extensive experience” are a benefit to Ex-Im.
The Port of Long Beach Executive Director J. Christopher Lytle will move to the Port of Oakland, where he will take the top spot, said the Long Beach Port in a press release (here). Before Lytle leaves, the Board of Harbor Commissioners will name an interim executive director, said the Port of Long Beach. Lytle will join the Oakland Port later this summer, the release said. Oakland's Acting Executive Director, Deborah Ale Flint, will continue in that post until Lytle takes over, said the Port of Oakland in a release (here).
Airbus Americas hired Christopher Johnson as customs manager for the company's manufacturing facility in Mobile, Ala., it said in a press release. Johnson previously worked at John S. James Co., the release said. Johnson is only the second hire for the new Airbus assembly line.
King & Spalding added Iain MacVay to lead its new international trade and customs practice in London, the law firm said in a press release. MacVay comes from Bird & Bird, the release said.
Matt Howsare, the chief of staff and chief counsel to Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Chairman Inez Tenenbaum, is leaving the agency to join the law firm Mintz Levin as counsel in Washington, said Tenenbaum in a statement. Effective May 29, Elliot Kaye, the current deputy chief of staff and senior counsel to the chairman, will move up to Howsare's spot, the press release said.
Acting U.S. Trade Representative Demetrios Marantis will leave the agency later this month, according to a USTR spokesman. Marantis, who has headed the agency since former USTR Ron Kirk stepped down in March, is leaving for a job at mobile payment company Square. Marantis will head the company's international government, regulatory and policy work, according to a press release from the company (here). “Demetrios’ invaluable experience will help Square provide powerful business tools to local entrepreneurs around the world,” said company CEO Jack Dorsey.
Bracewell & Giuliani hired Anne Northrup, previously commissioner on the Consumer Product Safety Commission, to work in the firm’s Policy Resolution Group in Washington, D.C. Northup was a five-term member of the House of Representatives 1997-2006, representing the Kentucky 3rd District.
William Jasper, CEO of North Carolina company Unifi, will continue as chairman of the National Council of Textile Organizations. Jasper was elected to his third term at the NCTO's annual meeting in April. President of Greenwood Mills James Self was also re-elected to serve a third term as vice chairman of NCTO.
Wilson Sonsini added Stuart Chemtob as senior of counsel in the firm's antitrust practice in Washington, D.C. Chemtob previously worked as special counsel for international trade with the Justice Department.
