Todd Hoffman, previously area port director for Los Angeles/Long Beach, is now acting executive director of cargo and conveyance security at CBP headquarters, according to a recent presentation from CBP put on by Avalon Risk Management and the National Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association of America. Hoffman takes the spot from Dan Baldwin, who recently retired (see 14010315). John Landers, previously with the Port of Cincinnati was named director of manifest and conveyance security at CBP headquarters.
Deputy U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) Miriam Sapiro intends to step down from her position in February, USTR said in a Jan. 22 statement. The Senate confirmed Sapiro for deputy USTR in December 2009.
Olga Torres, previously a lawyer at Holland & Knight, returned to the Braumiller Law Group as a partner, the law firm said in a press release.
The World Shipping Council (WSC) Board of Directors approved the addition of Tai Soo Suk, president of Hanjin Shipping and Soren Toft, chief operating officer of Maersk Line to the board, the WSC said.
The Satellite Industry Association (SIA) Board of Directors elected on Jan. 14 Bill Weller of Space Systems/Loral to serve as chairman for the coming year, SIA said in a press release. The board also elected Stacy Fuller of DirecTV as vice chairman and Jennifer Manner of EchoStar as treasurer.
The International Air Transport Association named Conrad Clifford as regional vice president for Asia Pacific, it said. Clifford, previously acting managing director of Antrak Air Ghana, replaces Maunu von Lueders, who is retiring, said IATA.
Dave Osiecki, senior vice president of policy and regulatory affairs at the American Trucking Associations, will now also handle legislative affairs work at the ATA, the trade association said. Osiecki takes over for Mary Phillips, who recently left the ATA, it said. Osiecki's "work leading ATA’s policy and regulatory affairs team has been exemplary and given an ever more complex web of issues our industry is confronted with, it only makes sense to bring our policy and legislative groups together to improve efficiency and coordination,” said ATA CEO Bill Graves.
Port of Seattle CEO Tay Yoshitani will retire in after his contract ends in June, the Port said. The Port Commission will "conduct an international search for his replacement," it said.
Maureen Thorson, an international trade lawyer and licensed customs broker at Wiley Rein, was promoted from of counsel to partner, the firm said in a press release.
