Lumber Liquidators named Lisa Kuca as director, Global Product Compliance, and Rebecca Rizzuti as director, Global Trade and Customs Compliance, the company said in a press release. Kuca previously worked as a senior compliance officer at American First Title and Rizzuti comes from Foot Locker, where she was director, International Trade. Both will report to Chief Compliance and Sustainability Officer Raymond Cotton, who was hired in February. The company's compliance program attracted some attention over the last year after it was raided by federal authorities (see 13092716).
Forward Air named Matthew Jewell executive vice president of intermodal services and chief strategy officer, the company said. Jewell previously was chief legal officer, a position that will be taken by Michael Hance, said Forward Air.
Robert Wright was appointed chairman of the board of directors for Expeditors International of Washington, the company said in a press release (here). Wright, CEO of a real estate company, replaces Expeditors founder Peter Rose, who announced his resignation from the board the same day (here). Rose pointed to " the necessity of the team being able to pursue their current strategic re-assessment free of any influence flowing from their allegiance to a 25-year tenured CEO and Founder," in his resignation letter.
Husch Blackwell hired Jeffrey Neeley as a partner and Michael Holton as senior counsel, the law firm said. Neeley and Holton previously worked at Barnes Richardson, as did Cortney O'Toole Morgan, who also recently joined Husch Blackwell (see 14043027) .
Covington & Burling hired Shara Aranoff, a former Chairman of the International Trade Commission, as of counsel in the firm's intellectual property and international trade practices, the firm said.
The U.S. Council for International Business hired Ariel Meyerstein, as vice president for labor affairs, corporate responsibility and governance, the group said in a press release. Meyerstein previously was an associate at the law firm Chadboure & Park.
The International Wood Products Association hired Joe O'Donnell, previously deputy legislative director for former Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., as Manager of Government and Public Affairs and member Services, said the association in an emailed release.
Cortney O'Toole Morgan, previously a lawyer at Barnes Richardson, is now senior counsel at Husch Blackwell, according to the firm's website.
David Heyman, assistant secretary for policy at the Department of Homeland Security, will leave the agency next month, he said in an April 23 memo. "My plan has always been to conclude my tenure sometime following the completion of our nation's second Quadrennial Homeland Security Review, which is forthcoming," he said. As such, and so that our new Secretary of Homeland Security can put in place a team of his own choosing, I wanted to let you know I will step down," in mid-May. Heyman highlighted agency accomplishments, including global supply chain security strategies, trade-related executive orders and the Beyond the Border Initiative with Canada.
Akin Gump added Suzanne Kane, previously a senior attorney advisor at CBP in the Office of International Trade, as an associate, the firm said in an official announcement. Kane has experience in valuation and intellectual property rights issues at CBP and was credited in 2008 for helping to draft the Importer Self-Assessment Product Safety Pilot Program, a trade partnership program jointly administered by CBP and the Consumer Product Safety Commission, said Akin Gump.
