Export controls attorney Jonathan Poling joined Akin Gump as a partner in its international trade practice in Washington, the firm said on Aug. 14. Poling previously worked at Baker & McKenzie.
The Port of Pittsburgh Commission announced Stephen Martinko will be its new executive director. Martinko has been deputy staff director of the House of Representatives Transportation and Infrastructure Committee since January 2013.
The National Wooden Pallet and Container Association (NWPCA) hired Patrick Atagi as vice president of advocacy and external affairs. Atagi previously worked as managing partner of NorthStar Policy Navigation. "Atagi will be responsible for developing and delivering association messaging, raising and maintaining a high profile for NWPCA, and cultivating new programs and services to further strengthen the industry," the association said in a press release.
The Port of Long Beach named Jon Slangerup as its new chief executive. Slangerup previously served as president of FedEx Canada.
Sandler & Travis Trade Advisory Services named Anu Gavini as its new president and chief operations officer. Gavini headed Chrysler’s corporate customs group prior to joining Sandler & Travis in 2000.
Littleton Joyce hired Thomas Grasso as of counsel in the law firm's maritime and transportation practice, it said. Grasso focuses on cargo damage and loss subrogation litigation in New York and New Jersey, the firm said.
CT Strategies, a consulting firm started by former CBP leaders Al Gina and Andrew Farrelly, hired four former government officials, it said in a press release. The company, which is part of Command Consulting Group, brought on Brett Laduzinsky, previously an adviser to the CBP Commissioner, as a director. CT Strategies also added as advisors Thomas Roland, previously Assistant Port Director at Miami International Airport, David Murphy, previously acting assistant commissioner for the CBP Office of Field Operations and Charles Bartoldus, previously senior director of Transportation and Border Security with the White House National Security Staff.
The American Apparel and Footwear Association named Juanita Duggan, previously policy director at Brownstein Hyatt, as its new CEO and president, the association said in a press release. Duggan, who worked as CEO of the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America prior to joining Brownstein Hyatt, replaces Kevin Burke, who joined the Airports Council International-North America. Joseph Dorn of King & Spalding was elected president of the Court of International Trade Bar Association (CITBA) during its annual meeting held May 29 in New York. He will replace outgoing president James Cannon of Cassidy Levy. At the same meeting, Lawrence Friedman of Barnes Richardson was elected vice president of CITBA and Kathleen Cannon of Kelley Drye was elected secretary. Elizabeth Drake of Stewart and Stewart will take Cannon’s place as co-chair of CITBA’s international trade committee.
Glyn Hughes will take over as Global Head of Cargo at the International Air Transport Association (IATA) effective June 9, an IATA press release said. The association aims to decrease end-to-end shipping times up to 48 hours, and Hughes as Global Head of Cargo will help to achieve that goal, said the release. Hughes joined IATA in 1991.
