Miller & Co. added Luke Vogel, previously an international trade compliance manager for Thermo Fisher Scientific, as import/export compliance director. The law firm also promoted Brian Murphy to partner, it said.
Vice President for International Trade at the Retail Industry Leaders Association, Stephanie Lester, is departing that organization this month for The Gap, Inc., she told International Trade Today. She will now take on the role of director of federal government affairs at The Gap, where she will focus strictly on apparel. Her first day at The Gap will be on Oct. 27. Lester was previously a staffer for the House Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee.
U.S. Steel hired Debbie Shon, as vice president, international trade and global public policy, the company said in a press release. Shon will handle international trade strategy and manage all trade enforcement actions from the company's Washington office, it said. Shon was previously a managing director of a real estate company and Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Intergovernmental Affairs and Public Liaison during the Clinton administration.
Fred Higdon, executive director of the Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association of Northern California died suddenly on Oct. 4, following a brief illness, said the association. Higdon, 74, was executive director since 2008.
Reed Smith recently hired customs lawyer John Donohue, previously with Clark Hill, as counsel in the firm's Philadelphia office.
Dentons hired Yohai Baisburd, previously a lawyer with White & Case, as a partner in the firm's international trade group, it said.

Albright Stonebridge Group is bringing onboard former Deputy Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for South and Central Asia Mara Burr as a senior vice president in its South and Central Asia practice, the firm announced on Sept. 11. Burr also previously served as a USTR negotiator for environment issues.
Export controls attorney Jonathan Poling joined Akin Gump as a partner in its international trade practice in Washington, the firm said on Aug. 14. Poling previously worked at Baker & McKenzie.
The Port of Pittsburgh Commission announced Stephen Martinko will be its new executive director. Martinko has been deputy staff director of the House of Representatives Transportation and Infrastructure Committee since January 2013.
