Livingston International appointed Steven Preston as CEO following the retirement of Peter Luit from the top spot, the company said in a press release. Preston previously worked as chief financial officer at Waste Management, said Livingston. Luit remains a "significant shareholder" and will keep a seat on the company's board of directors, said Livingston.
The National Council of Textile Organizations (NCTO) on Aug. 6 appointed former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce Augustine "Auggie" Tantillo as the new NCTO president, following the departure of Cass Johnson. Johnson served as NCTO president since the creation of the NCTO in 2004. In a press release, the NCTO highlighted Tantillo’s decades of industry experience, noting the challenges the U.S. textile industry faces in light of ongoing Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations. “In his new role as president, Auggie will continue NCTO’s unparalleled commitment to fighting on behalf of American textile manufacturing and jobs at home and abroad,” said Bill Jasper, Chairman of NCTO.
A group of 10 attorneys “focused on litigating complex technology patent cases” before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) will join the Winston & Strawn’s intellectual property (IP) practice, the firm announced on Aug. 8. The group is made up of John Alison, Steven Anzalone, Paul Goulet and Thomas Jarvis, four partners from Finnegan, and " a team of additional experienced attorneys and support staff for these high demand litigations," the law firm said.
William Lally will take over as CEO of Janel World Trade, replacing the company's founder, James Jannello, it said in a press release. Lally previously worked as chief operating officer (COO) at the company. The company also said Vincent Iacopella, previously managing director of the company's California subsidiary, will move up to COO.
The International Air Cargo Association appointed Doug Brittin, previously with the U.S. Transportation Security Administration, as secretary general, the association said. Brittin will succeed Danial Fernandez, who "has been offered a substantial continuing role in the Association," effective Aug. 15, the group said.
The Senate Finance Committee approved the nomination of Scott Kieff as member of the U.S. International Trade Commission. Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., praised the committee’s unanimous approval of Kieff, a professor at The George Washington University Law School who previously worked at Patent Public Advisory Committee of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
Former U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk was elected to Texas Instruments' board of directors, the company said in a press release. Kirk now works at the law firm Gibson, Dunn.

President Barack Obama announced on July 12 his intention to nominate Rhonda Schmidtlein as a member of the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), the Office of the Press Secretary said, along with four other key administration nominations. Schmidtlein currently works as an accounting regulation and oversight consultant at the World Bank. She previously held positions with the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, USTR, George Washington University and U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri. The ITC considers itself an “independent, quasijudicial Federal agency with broad investigative responsibilities on matters of trade.” The commission’s primary target areas of investigation include dumping and subsidy impact of domestic industry, global safeguards and intellectual property.
Former City of Oakland Planning Commissioner Michael Colbruno was sworn in as Port of Oakland commissioner on July 11. Colbruno was nominated by Oakland Mayor Jean Quan and unanimously approved by the city council on May 7, a press release said.
