The Commerce Department is beginning an antidumping investigation on polypropylene corrugated boxes from China and Vietnam, and a countervailing duty investigation of the same goods from China, it said in a fact sheet April 8. The underlying petition was filed in March (see 2503190012). The International Trade Commission is scheduled to make its preliminary injury determinations by May 2. These AD/CVD investigations will continue only if the ITC finds injury. International Trade Today will provide more details upon publication of the initiation notices in the Federal Register.

The Commerce Department has released the preliminary results of its antidumping duty administrative review on superabsorbent polymers from South Korea (A-580-914). The agency preliminarily calculated a zero percent AD rate for LG Chem, Ltd., the only company under review. If the agency's finding is continued in the final results, importers of subject merchandise from LG Chem entered between June 7, 2022, and Nov. 30, 2023, won't be assessed AD, and no cash deposits would be required on merchandise from LG Chem beginning on the date the final results are published in the Federal Register.
The Commerce Department has released the preliminary results of a countervailing duty administrative review of softwood lumber products from Canada (C-122-858). This review covers subject merchandise from the exporters under review entered during the period Jan. 1, 2023, through Dec. 31, 2023.
The Commerce Department soon will suspend liquidation and impose antidumping duty cash deposit requirements on imports of corrosion-resistant steel products from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, the Netherlands, South Africa, Taiwan, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam, it said in a fact sheet issued April 4.
The International Trade Commission seeks comments by April 16 on a Section 337 complaint alleging that imports of drug products containing C-Type natriuretic peptide variants infringe patents held by BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc., it said in a notice set for April 8 publication. According to the complaint, BioMarin is seeking a limited exclusion order and cease and desist orders against Ascendis Pharma and Wacker Biotech to bar from entry "drug products containing a c-type natriuretic peptide variant, and components of the drug product; specifically, a prodrug of CNP, including the drug substance, the linker of the drug substance, and other components, such as the synthetic polymeric group, and vials, prefilled syringes, autoinjectors, or other presentations of TransCon CNP containing the same, for the treatment of achondroplasia," that violate the complainant's patents. The complainant said that the drugs "have not been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for any indication, but are expected to be used for therapeutic purposes, such as treating achondroplasia in children."

Commerce said it made no changes to the calculations it made for the preliminary results of this review.
