The Commerce Department is beginning new antidumping duty investigations on glass wine bottles from Chile, China and Mexico, as well as a new countervailing duty investigation on glass wine bottles from China, it said in a fact sheet Jan. 19. The underlying petition was filed in December (see 2401030043). The International Trade Commission is scheduled to make its preliminary injury determinations by Feb. 12. These AD/CVD investigations will continue only if the ITC finds injury. International Trade Today will provide more details upon publication of the initiation notices in the Federal Register.

The Commerce Department looks set to recognize an Indian company’s name change and corporate reorganization for the purposes of antidumping duties on frozen warmwater shrimp from India (A-533-840). The agency preliminarily found Elque Ventures Private Limited (EVPL) is the successor-in-interest to Elque & Co., in the preliminary results of a changed circumstances review. The agency preliminarily found Elque & Co. became part of Elque Ventures Private Limited when EVPL took over the assets of Elque & Co. under an agreement between the two entities. EVLP demonstrated that the combined company continues to operate as the same business entity, with the same board and same production facilities, as when it was Elque & Co.

The International Trade Commission seeks comments by Jan. 25 on a Section 337 complaint recently filed by Altronic that seeks a ban on imports of capacitive discharge ignition systems from Motortech that allegedly infringe on Altronic’s patents. Altronic says Motortech is making ignition systems for industrial internal combustion engines that copy its patented technologies. It seeks a limited exclusion order and cease and desist order banning such imports from the Germany-based Motortech and its affiliate Motortech Americas.
