Ouraring and its Finland-based parent company Oura Health seek a ban on imports of smart ring wearable devices that allegedly infringe on its patents, the ITC said in a notice March 19. In a complaint filed March 13, Ouraring said India-based Ultrahuman and two of its affiliates, as well as China-based Guangdong Jiu Zhi Technology Co. Ltd. and its U.S. affiliate RingConn LLC, and France-based Circular SAS, are making smart rings that copy the patented technologies in Ouraring’s Oura Ring. The rings are used to monitor a user’s health and fitness, including physical activity, biological data and sleep. Ouraring seeks a limited exclusion order and cease and desist orders against UltraHuman, Jiu Zhi and Circular. Comments are due to the ITC by March 27.

The International Trade Commission began a Section 337 investigation on allegations that imports of vehicle telematics, fleet management and video-based safety systems, devices and components from Motive Technologies allegedly infringe on patents held by Samsara (ITC Inv. No. 337-TA-1393). In its February complaint (see 2402140020), Samsara said Motive is making infringing goods -- which include AI dashcams and telematics devices for fleet vehicles -- in China and Malaysia, and they are subsequently imported into the U.S. The ITC will consider whether to issue a limited exclusion order and cease and desist order banning importation and sale of infringing products.

The Commerce Department issued its final determination in the antidumping duty investigation on paper shopping bags from Turkey (A-489-849). Cash deposit rates set in this final determination take effect March 18, the date the final determination was published in the Federal Register.

The International Trade Commission seeks comments by March 25 on a Section 337 complaint recently filed by Motorola Mobility, the ITC said in a notice March 15. In its complaint, filed March 11, Motorola says Ericsson and its affiliates are importing and selling cellular base station equipment that infringes on its patents, including 5G NR radio units and baseband units used by wireless carriers to build and maintain 5G cellular networks. Motorola seeks a limited exclusion order and cease and desist orders against Ericsson.
