A working group of the Codex Committee on Processed Fruits and Vegetables on food additives associated with desiccated coconut, table olives, and certain processed fruits and vegetables is requesting any further comments on the Food Additive Provisions for Processed Fruits and Vegetables: Additional Provisions, said the Food Safety and Inspection Service. The provisions will be included in selected adopted standards and standards under development, prior to the upcoming session next month. Member countries and observer organizations interested in submitting comments should send them to the U.S. Secretariat for CCPFV (ccpfv@fsis.usda.gov) and USCodex@fsis.usda.gov), with a copy to the Codex Secretariat (codex@fao.org) by Sept. 30.

The Agricultural Marketing Service released the Ocean Shipping Container Availability Report (OSCAR) for the week of Sept. 12-18. The weekly report contains data on container availability for westbound transpacific traffic at 18 intermodal locations in the U.S.1 from the nine member carriers of the Westbound Transpacific Stabilization Agreement (WTSA)2. Although the report is compiled by AMS, it covers container availability for all merchandise, not just agricultural products.
The Bureau of Industry and Security updated legal authority citations in the Export Administration Regulations in final rule set for publication in the Sept. 14 Federal Register. BIS changed citations to reflect the latest extensions by executive order of export control regulations (E.O. 49699) and the national emergency with respect to the government of Syria (E.O. 27559). The final rule is “purely procedural, and makes no changes other than to revise Code of Federal Regulations authority citations paragraphs,” BIS said. “It does not change the text of any section of the EAR, nor does it alter any right, obligation or prohibition that applies to any person under the EAR.”

Mexico imposed antidumping duties on ethylene glycol monobutyl ether from the U.S., the Mexican Secretary of Economy said in a Sept. 11 notice in the Diario Oficial. As a result of this final determination in its antidumping investigation, Mexico will impose the following duties on imports of the subject merchandise from the U.S.:
Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano will be in Montreal Sept. 12 to meet with international partners to discuss aviation security and efforts to secure the global supply chain, said the Department of Homeland Security. Transportation Security Administration Administrator John Pistole and Assistant Secretary for International Affairs Alan Bersin will participate as well. Secretary Napolitano will also deliver remarks during the Formal Opening for the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) High-level Conference on Aviation Security.
The International Trade Commission will review an administrative law judge’s finding of violations of Section 337 by LG in its patent investigation of certain light-emitting diodes and products containing same (337-TA-784). The case, instituted in July 2011, is based on two complaints filed by OSRAM. The ITC is asking for comments on certain aspects of the ALJ’s finding, as well as the issues of remedy, bonding, and the public interest, by Sept. 21.
