Xun Wang, a former Managing Director of PPG Paints Trading (Shanghai) Co., a wholly-owned Chinese subsidiary of United States-based PPG Industries, was sentenced Dec. 20 to a year in prison for conspiring to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, said the Department of Justice. In addition to the prison time, Judge Sullivan ordered Wang to pay a $100,000 fine and to perform 500 hours of community service.

The Agricultural Marketing Service released the Ocean Shipping Container Availability Report (OSCAR) for the week of Dec. 19-25. The weekly report contains data on container availability for westbound transpacific traffic at 18 intermodal locations in the U.S.1 from the eight member carriers of the Westbound Transpacific Stabilization Agreement (WTSA).2 Although the report is compiled by AMS, it covers container availability for all merchandise, not just agricultural products.

Korean exports of large residential washers to the U.S. are being dumped and subsidized, and Mexican exports dumped, said the International Trade Administration, announcing its final determination in the antidumping and countervailing duty investigations. AD cash deposit rates for Korean and Mexican large residential washers range from 9.23 to 79.11 percent, and 36.52 to 72.41 percent, respectively. CV cash deposits for Korean large residential washers range from de minimis to 72.3 percent. Because it received a de minimis in the CV duty investigation, any eventual CV duty order will not apply to the company. The International Trade Commission is set to issue its final injury determination by Feb. 1, and AD/CV duty orders will issue only if the ITC finds injury.

The Census Bureau released its schedule for Automated Export System seminars and AESPcLink workshops for 2013. At each event, training will be provided by Census, CBP, and the Bureau of Industry and Security at the seminar on the first day. These experts will cover the filing requirements of the Foreign Trade Regulations, how to classify commodities in Schedule B, EAR compliance, enforcement of the FTR, and provide a thorough overview of the AES. The second day will offer a half day AESPcLink Workshop.
An Iranian corporation, its subsidiaries and several of its officers and business partners have been charged in Alexandria, Va., accused of allegedly exporting more than $30 million in computer goods from U.S. companies to Iran in violation of trade sanctions imposed on Iran, the Justice Department said.
