Commerce Posts 2nd Round of Steel and Aluminum Tariff Inclusion Requests; Comments Due Oct. 21

The Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security posted 95 requests for inclusions of new tariff subheadings under 50% Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum derivatives. Comments on the inclusion requests are due in 14 days, on Oct. 21, and the postings also kick off a 60-day period for BIS to consider the requests.

The requests represent the second round of three that BIS is slated to undertake each year (see 2504300031). In the first round, which began in May and resulted in new tariffs that took effect Aug. 18, BIS ended up imposing tariffs on 407 out of 467 requested subheadings (see 2508150063). Those tariffs began about three months after BIS initially posted the inclusion requests for comments.
