AMS to Stay Regulation Governing Walnut Imports
USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service is staying the handling regulation governing walnut imports "to align it with regulations prescribed under the Federal marketing order regulating the handling of walnuts grown in California," it said in a Federal Register notice.

The direct final rule is effective Nov. 6, unless AMS receives significant adverse comments by Oct. 22 that warrant a withdrawal of the rule.
The effort to address the import regulation began in October 2021 when the California Walnut Board, which locally administers the regulation, recommended formal rulemaking to amend the regulation.
