US Apparently Fails to Reduce Tariffs on EU Goods
The U.S. apparently failed to implement promised tariff reductions on European Union goods in time for a Sept. 1 deadline outlined in an EU-U.S. joint statement issued Aug. 21.

As of publication, there has been no change to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule to apply "only the MFN tariff" to European "unavailable natural resources (including cork), all aircraft and aircraft parts, generic pharmaceuticals and their ingredients and chemical precursors," though some of those goods are already excluded because they are subject to Section 232 tariffs or investigations. The European Parliament is debating legislation to reduce tariffs on U.S. industrial goods and seafood (see 2508280021).
The White House did not respond to requests for comment, and the EU wasn't able to comment by our deadline.
