Jewelry Interests Argue That Diamonds Should Receive Tariff Carve-Out

Jewelers of America's and the International Diamond Manufacturers Association's leadership met with Peter Navarro last week to argue that diamonds shouldn't be subject to reciprocal import duties.

They said the White House senior counselor for trade discussed whether diamonds could be on Annex II as a critical mineral.

“We are aggressively communicating to key members of the Trump administration to ensure the jewelry industry’s voice is heard,” Jewelers of America CEO David Bonaparte said. “We had a constructive exchange of views and had an opportunity to express the industry’s concern about the effect of tariffs on our members. We are hopeful for a favorable outcome.”
