FDA Warns Retailers About Imported Cookware Made From Hindalium, Indalium

The FDA is warning retailers and consumers not to sell or use some imported cookware made from aluminum, brass, and aluminum alloys known as hindalium/hindolium or indalium/indolium, noting that FDA and state testing have found that they leach lead into food when used for cooking.

The agency singled out cookware manufactured by India-based Saraswati Strips after its testing found that the cookware may be leaching "significant" levels of lead into food, according to an Aug. 13 alert.

"FDA is actively working to remove cookware from the market that may leach lead into food when used for cooking. FDA’s surveillance is ongoing. Additional products will be added to this alert as needed," it said.
