Trump: 'Approximately 100% Tariff' on Semiconductors Coming

President Donald Trump said in the Oval Office Aug. 6 that the U.S. will be imposing a tariff of "approximately 100%" on chips and semiconductors, "but if you're building in the United States of America, there is no charge."

Trump said even companies that are not producing chips yet, domestically, as long as they're building, the chips they import will not be taxed. He said if you promise to build and you don't follow through, the U.S. will retroactively collect the tariffs.

He didn't say when the tariffs would be launched, or whether they would apply to electronics made with chips.
