Six House Democrats Introduce 6 Bills to Carve Goods Out of New Tariffs

The package, which the group is calling "Babies Over Billionaires," includes:

  • The Baby Food Tax Relief Act
  • The Baby Clothing Tax Relief Act
  • The Baby Sleep Tax Relief Act
  • The Baby Play Tax Relief Act,
  • The Baby Safety Tax Relief Act
  • The Baby Hygiene Tax Relief Act.

All the men are sponsors on all the bills, but each one is led by a different member; Reps. Derek Tran, D-Calif., Jimmy Gomez, D-Calif., Shomari Figures, D-Ala., Brad Schneider, D-Ill., Suhas Subramanyam, D-Va., and Steven Horsford, D-Nev., are behind the package.

In a press release this week, Tran said, "As a dad of three young kids, I know just how expensive raising a baby can be. As prices skyrocket under President Trump’s reckless tariff policies, working families are under even more stress as many struggle to make ends meet."

Gomez said, "Any parent, including myself, knows how expensive it is to keep up with kids growing out of their clothes. Working families shouldn’t have to choose between paying rent and buying their child new shoes."
