APHIS Lifts Requirement for Imported New Zealand Fruit to Carry LBAM-Free Documentation
Fruit imported from New Zealand no longer needs documentation declaring that the fruit is free of the light brown apple moth (LBAM), the USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service said in a Federal Register notice. This deregulation action is effective July 25.

Imported fruit from New Zealand previously needed a phytosanitary certification declaring that the fruit is free of LBAM. But "based on the findings of a commodity import evaluation document, which we made available to the public for review and comment through a previous notice, we are removing the requirement for the additional declaration," APHIS said. The change will harmonize its domestic and import requirements, APHIS said.
