May's Audit Figure Second-Highest Since January

The number of audits doubled from April to May, with CBP conducting 67 audits that identified $139 million in duties and fees from imported goods improperly declared, according to the agency's May monthly update released June 17.

May's audits are the second-highest total since the start of 2025. The highest total occurred in March, when CBP conducted 71 audits.

CBP also collected over $29 million in duties and fees in May.

May's audit figure compares with 33 audits in April, which had $117 million in duties and fees owed to the U.S. government, according to CBP's April update. Collected revenue in April from this identification was over $18 million.

CBP also assessed roughly $9 billion in tariff revenue between April and May, according to a comparison of monthly updates put out by the agency.

From Jan. 20 to May 30, CBP says, it assessed $46.9 billion in tariff revenue from tariffs guided by 22 presidential actions. This figure compares with assessments worth $37.9 billion starting from Jan. 20 to the end of April.

CBP also said in its May update that it assesses over $450 million in tariff revenue daily.

CBP processed more than 2.8 million entry summaries in May valued at more than $276 billion, and it identified estimated duties of nearly $26.6 billion to be collected by the U.S. government. This compares with more than 3 million entry summaries in April valued at more than $284 billion.
