New Russia Sanctions Could Hurt Peace Talks, Trump Says
President Donald Trump this week said he hasn't yet decided to impose new sanctions against Russia because he believes it could still hurt the possibility of a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.

Asked by a reporter May 28 what's "stopping" him from issuing sanctions, Trump said: “Only the fact that if I think I'm close to getting a deal, I don't want to screw it up by doing that."
He added: "Let me tell you, I'm a lot tougher than the people you're talking about, but you have to know when to use [sanctions]. If I think it's going to hurt a deal -- this isn't my war. This is [Joe] Biden's war, [Volodymyr] Zelensky's war and [Vladimir] Putin's war. This isn't Trump's war. I'm only here for one thing: to see if I can end it, to save 5,000 lives a week and a lot of money."
