DOE Withdraws Some Energy Conservation Amendments Related to Refrigerators, Freezers

The Department of Energy is withdrawing energy conservation standard amendments that went into effect on Jan. 21, citing a law signed by President Donald Trump on May 9 calling for the withdrawal of the changes.

The law, the Congressional Review Act, also says a comment period over this withdrawal is "unnecessary because DOE is withdrawing a final rule that has been disapproved under the Congressional Review Act."

One final rule withdrawn was for commercial refrigerators, freezers and refrigerator-freezers, according to a notice released May 19. Another withdrawal pertains to consumer gas-fired instantaneous water heaters; a third pertains to walk-in coolers and walk-in freezers.
