Trump Says He'll Lower Tariffs as Long as US Gets 'Something That Is Good'

President Donald Trump, on his flight to Florida on April 3, told reporters on the plane that "we put ourselves in the driver's seat" with the global tariff announcements, and now, "every country is calling us."

According to a report from the White House press pool, a reporter asked if he'd be willing to make deals with countries to lessen the tariffs, he replied, "Well it depends. … As long as they are giving us something that is good."

He added, "The tariffs give us great power to negotiate. They always have. I’ve used them very well in the first administration. … Now we’re taking it to a whole new level.”
