Reintroduced Bill Would Promote Interagency Work on Fentanyl Sanctions
Rep. Dan Newhouse, R-Wash., reintroduced a bill March 11 to create a federal task force to coordinate sanctions enforcement and other efforts against fentanyl traffickers.

The task force would consist of representatives from a wide range of agencies, including the Treasury, State, Commerce, Defense, Homeland Security and Justice departments and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
The Joint Task Force to Counter Illicit Synthetic Narcotics Act was referred to the House Judiciary, Financial Services, Foreign Affairs and Intelligence committees. Sen. Dave McCormick, R-Pa., introduced a companion bill, which was referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Newhouse originally unveiled the bill in the last Congress as co-chair of the House Select Committee on China’s fentanyl policy working group (see 2412180045).
