Trump Considering More Tariffs on Russian Imports to Force End of War

President Donald Trump said on social media he is "strongly considering large-scale" sanctions and tariffs on Russia "until a Cease Fire and FINAL SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT ON PEACE IS REACHED."

Tariffs on Russian goods are generally at least 35%, with some products at 70%, and aluminum products at 200% (see 2302240006). Those tariffs were imposed in April 2022. In 2023, imports from Russia were valued at $4.6 billion. In 2024, they were at $3 billion. In 2022, they were at $14.4 billion, and in 2021, before the hikes in tariff rates, they were at $29.7 billion.
