ITC Begins Section 337 Investigation on Motorized Self-Balancing Vehicles
The International Trade Commission is beginning a Section 337 investigation on motorized self-balancing vehicles (ITC Inv. No. 337-TA-1440), after receiving allegations filed by Razor USA and Shane Chen that companies Gotrax, Gyroor and Sisigad are importing products that infringe its patents, the agency said in a press release Feb. 20.

In a complaint filed in January (see 2501080046), the complainants said the respondents are infringing their patents on "certain motorized self-balancing vehicles." The complainants describe the product at issue as "motorized self-balancing vehicles used largely for recreational purposes [which] are sometimes referred to as 'Hoverboards,' 'Self-Balancing Scooters,' 'Balance Gliders,' or even 'Hovertrax™.'" The ITC will consider a limited exclusion order and cease and desist orders against the respondents.
