The Department of Energy is delaying the effective date of a final rule that amends the energy conservation standards for gas-fired instantaneous water heaters, it said in a Federal Register notice. The new effective date is March 21, and comments must be received by March 13. The rule had been scheduled to take effect March 11.

The notice said that the temporary delay in effective date is necessary to give DOE officials the opportunity for further review and consideration of new regulations, consistent with the Presidential Memorandum of Jan. 20, 2025. The compliance date remains Dec. 26, 2029.

According to a notice published in December (see 2412230039), the final rule amended energy conservation standards for various consumer products and certain commercial and industrial equipment, including gas-fired instantaneous water heaters.
