Bipartisan Bill Reintroduced to Grant PNTR Status to Kazakhstan
A half-dozen House members reintroduced a bill this week. to grant Kazakhstan permanent normal trade relations status. The former Soviet republic does receive most favored nation treatment, but must certify its compliance under the Jackson-Vanik amendment each year.

Rep. Jimmy Panetta, D-Calif., leads the effort, and is joined by two Republicans and three other Democrats.
“The U.S.-Kazakhstan Trade Modernization Act is an important piece of legislation that will end Cold War-era trade regulations and allow us to support greater regional development and prosperity," Rep. Darin LaHood, R-Ill., said. “This legislation will also benefit Illinois' economy and promote American agriculture.”
