- CBP officers in Indianapolis seized two shipments containing 2,172 pieces of rings, brooches, bracelets, charms, necklaces and earrings bearing luxury designer’s protected trademarks. The shipments from China, which arrived on Jan. 21 and Jan. 23, included 1,439 charms with Tiffany and Co. logos, 496 rings bearing Cartier and Van Cleef and Arpels logos, 124 bracelets displaying the logos of Cartier, Chanel, and Juste Un, 64 necklaces with Chanel and Van Cleef and Arpels logos, 31 pendants bearing Van Cleef and Arpels logos, 12 pairs of earrings with Van Cleef and Arpels and Chanel logos, and six brooches with Chanel logos, CBPsaid. If the goods were genuine, their retail value would have been $5.2 million (here).
- At the Minneapolis-St. Paul’s Express Consignment Facility, CBP officers on Jan. 23 intercepted 42 pallets containing a total of 1,134 fraudulent gas engines, which were seized for not providing proper documentation. Arriving from China, each pallet contained 27 gas engines headed to various businesses across the U.S. The shipment had an appraised value of $1.34 million (here).
- At the Eagle Pass Port of Entry in Texas on Dec. 2, CBP officers seized pallets containing 52,500 cartons of undeclared cigarettes. Officers at the Eagle Pass Camino Real International Bridge referred a tractor-trailer for secondary inspection. According to CBP, "the shipment’s export invoice included a merchandise description of 'Other made-up articles, including dress' with a total value of $7,936." Upon further examination, officers discovered anomalies within the merchandise. Physical examination found 26 pallets of cigarettes with 1,050 boxes (52,500 cartons) plus four pallets of protein powder with 216 boxes or 1,296 bags. The appraised value of all the merchandise totaled $1,939,566 (here).
