"We did have a successful deployment Saturday night of the warning message related to the enforcement of the $800 aggregate daily threshold. It has been working. The system has been stable," Susan Thomas, executive director of Cargo and Conveyance Security with CBP's Office of Field Operations, said in response to a question about the deployment status. Thomas was speaking on a Jan. 20 phone call with the trade to touch base with trade community members after the inauguration of President Donald Trump that occurred earlier in the day.
Thomas noted that since going live at around 10:30 p.m. EST on Jan. 18, ACE has sent over 5,000 messages "in truck and air, as well as in the cargo release Type 86 mode." CBP is continuing to monitor the system as filing activity is expected to pick up after the holiday weekend, she continued.
CBP said in a Jan. 17 cargo systems message the enhancement "will provide a warning in ACE when a de minimis shipment may exceed the $800 per person/per day threshold." The release will include electronic data interchange impacts.
According to the cargo systems message, CBP will offer post-deployment support via Microsoft Teams on Jan. 23 at 1 p.m. EST.
