The "Alcohol Facts" label would include per-serving alcohol, calorie and nutrient content information, as well as optional information on sugar content. In that proposed rule, TTB also is proposing mandatory alcohol content statements for certain types of malt beverages, beer and wine that aren't currently required to be labeled with an alcohol content statement, it said.

The proposed rule on food allergens would require labels to disclose all major food allergens used in the production of alcoholic beverages subject to TTB regulation. "Under the proposed regulations, unless an exception applies, labels must declare milk, eggs, fish, Crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, wheat, peanuts, soybeans, and sesame, as well as ingredients that contain protein derived from these foods, if used in the production of the alcohol beverage."

Compliance with both rules would be required five years from the date a final rule is published. Comments on both are due April 17.
