AMS to Modify Calculation of Section 8e Import Inspection Fees

USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service is modifying how it calculates Section 8e import inspection fees, said a notice. The changes are effective Jan. 27.

The fees are related to the inspection and certification of fresh fruits, vegetables and other products, according to AMS. The changes include changing Section 8e import inspection fees from a per-carlot basis to a per-pound basis, reducing the fee for each additional subplot by 50% and establishing a new fee calculation for lots less than a carlot, AMS said.

"These revisions recover, as nearly as practicable, the costs of performing inspection services on imported commodities in accordance with the Agricultural Marketing Agreement Act of 1937," AMS said.
