BIS Completes Interagency Review for Prerule on Drone ICTS Import Restrictions
The Bureau of Industry and Security completed a round of interagency review for a rule that could lead to new import restrictions on certain drones and drone parts from China and other countries of concern.

The prerule, sent to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs Nov. 12 (see 2411130005) and completed Dec. 13, will seek public comments about potential restrictions on certain “unmanned aerial systems” under the Information and Communications Technology and Services Supply Chain executive order, the same authorities BIS is using to put in place new import restrictions on certain Chinese connected vehicles (see 2409220002 and 2410290026). The agency said the advance notice of proposed rulemaking will help BIS determine the “technologies and market participants most appropriate for regulation” under its ICTS authorities.
